TROY, Alabama – Leanna Johnson pitched a one-hitter through five innings of work to down ULM, 8-0, before Troy fell to the Warhawks in the nightcap, 4-1, on Friday at the Troy Softball Complex.
Â
Katie Webb and Taylor Corbett led the offensive efforts in game one with each recording a pair of RBIs while Stephanie Snyder and Katie Lively both hit their first long balls of the season.
Â
"It was the tale of two games; I thought we had great pitching, defense and timely hitting in the first game, but didn't in the second," head coach Beth Mullins said. "We are going to have to shake it off and get prepared for game three tomorrow."
Â
Â
Game One: Troy 8, ULM 0
Â
Leanna Johnson (11-4) sat down five batters and allowed just one hit to give Troy (17-8) its first win in conference play. Johnson and the Trojan defense allowed just one base runner throughout the game.
Â
A lead off solo shot by Stephanie Snyder in the bottom of the second inning started a rally and gave Troy the lead once and for all.
Â
Back-to-back singles by Hope Hernandez and Madelyn Porter plated Allie Miller who pinch ran for Kelly Horne after drawing a walk. Taylor Corbett cleared the bases with a single up the middle and was later scored with a double by Katie Webb to cap off Troy's monster five-run inning.
Â
Porter hit a walk off single through the left side after a double by Snyder and singles by Horne, Kaylee Hussey, and Hope Hernandez plated two runs.
Â
