TROY, Alabama – Samford scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to complete a late-game comeback and defeat Troy, 5-3, in a Wednesday afternoon midweek matchup at the Troy Softball Complex.

In the decisive frame, Samford (7-15) hit back-to-back-to-back singles to set up a base clearing double by Hannah Trombley for the go-ahead runs, Troy answered with a run in the home half of the frame on an RBI from Katie Lively, but the Trojans could get no closer.

Katie Webb and Bailey Taylor led the Trojans at the plate with a pair of hits each, while Mekhi Mayfield was the lone Bulldog with multiple hits in the game.

The Trojans (16-7) got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when a wild pitch scored Talia Truitt who got on after being hit by a pitch. Katie Webb followed with a single through the left side to score Madelyn Porter who reached on an error.

Mayfield tied the game for the Bulldogs in the top of the fifth with a double to right center that scored Whitney Hinton and Ashley Barnes.

Annie Willis started in the circle for the Trojans and allowed two runs – one earned – on two hits over five innings of work. Leanna Johnson (10-3) took the loss for the Trojans after allowing three runs on four hits and a walk.

Emily Barnett (1-0) picked up her first win of the season for Samford after coming in in the sixth inning to relieve McKenna Gillespie. Barnett scattered two hits and one run to earn the victory.

Troy looks to bounce back this weekend when it hosts ULM in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both clubs. Troy's series against ULM has been changed to a doubleheader on Friday with game one starting at 4 p.m. and a single game on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. due to the threat of inclement weather.
