Tiffin Leads Troy on Day One of UNA Spring Classic

KILLEN, Alabama – Jake Tiffin fired a field-best 11 birdies en route to a 2-under 142 to lead Troy in Monday's opening two rounds of the UNA Spring Classic at the Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club. The Trojans are tied for seventh in the 12-team field heading into Tuesday's final round.

Tiffin shot matching 71s in Monday's two rounds and really turned it on over his final 27 holes as he played them to the tune of 3-under. Playing as an individual, Tiffin carded five birdies in the opening round, including four on the back nine, and added six more his second turn through the course; his 142 is the best 36-hole score of the year by a Trojan on a par-72 course.

Dean Martin and Ike Alexander are tied for 25^thplace overall at 3-over par following two rounds. Martin carded nine birdies on the day with rounds of 74 and 73, while Alexander dropped four birdies as he shot rounds of 72 and 75.

North Alabama carries a seven-shot lead over Jacksonville State into Tuesday's final round, while Troy is just five shots off a top-five finish.

Brent Hamm fired an even-par 72 in the opening round with five birdies before dropping to 4-over with a 76 in the afternoon session to finish the day tied for 32^ndplace. Will McFadden is tied for 48^thplace at 7-over par and Connor Futrell is tied for 57^thplace at 10-over.

Teams will once again face a shotgun start for Tuesday's final round beginning at 8:15 a.m., and the Trojans will play alongside Valpo and Loyola-Chicago beginning on holes seven thru 11.
