3/2/2019 4:52:00 PM | Basketball (M)
Troy, Ala. – Troy's first-half deficit was too much to overcome in a 79-66 loss to UT Arlington in Sun Belt Conference men's basketball action in the final home regular-season game on Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans (11-17, 4-12 Sun Belt) had four players in double figures in the game but the Mavericks (15-15, 11-6 Sun Belt) shot 52.7 percent (29-of-55) on the evening to keep Troy in check.
Junior Charles Norman led the Trojans with 15 points on four three-pointers made in a career-high 28 minutes of action off the bench. Sophomore Darian Adams followed behind with 13 points, two rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.
On senior day, senior BJ Miller scored 11 points with four assists, a rebound, a block and a steal while fellow senior Alex Hicks racked up 10 points with eight boards, a game-high three blocks, two assists and a steal.
Troy could not slow down UTA in the first half, as the Bobcats shot a blistering 70 percent (7-of-10) from behind the arc and 62.1 percent (18-of-29) from the field which led to a commanding 48-34 halftime lead.
In the second half, Troy went on a monstrous 17-3 run from 19:43 to 10:49 to reduce UTA's deficit to just two (53-52). The Mavericks responded with two huge three's that led to an 11-2 run to increase their lead back to 10 (64-54) with 8:30 remaining.
Troy's last push brought the Mavs' lead down to seven but after back-to-back empty possessions, UTA would go on another run to solidify the win.
QUOTING COACH CUNNINGHAM
"UTA shot the ball really well in the first half and we were better offensively in the first half than we have been in a while, but they were really good. We tried to change our defense a little, early on our zone bothered them but they figured it out. I'm proud of how we fought in some obvious difficult circumstances, but we are still fighting."
