BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – In its final tune-up before a pair of championship meets, Troy indoor track and field set three new school records and a slew of personal bests Friday at the Bulldog Invitational hosted by Samford at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Â
Jordan Smith, who had just set the men's indoor 800m school record in the previous meet, improved upon that time with a time of 1:53.76 and finished third. Casimir Tawiah ran the school's first ever sub-eight second time in the 60m hurdles with a 7.96 en route to a runner-up finish in the event. Distance runner Macki Walsh placed her name at the top of the record list with a time of 10:09.58 in the women's 3000m – good enough for fourth.
Â
Caleb Brown continued his recent hot streak in the weight throw in the meet; setting a new personal best, inching closer to the school record and winning the event with a 19.49-meter toss. Brown, who has now set a personal best in each of the last three meets, holds the second-best weight throw mark in school history – behind only teammate Michael Alvernaz's 20.35-meter throw in 2018.
Â
The Trojans fell just shy of winning three more events, as Precious Ogba (women's 200m), Madison Kennedy (women's 400m) and Jordan McCleskey (men's 400m) each finished in second in their respective events – Ogba's 24.27-second 200m dash time was her personal best. Gabrielle Henderson, who already held the second-fastest indoor 60m time in school history, ran a new personal best 7.56 seconds in the race.
Â
Overall, Troy brought home 23 top 8 finishes to go along with its three school records and one event win at the meet. Up next for the squad is the Sun Belt Indoor Championship at the Birmingham CrossPlex next Monday and Tuesday.
