Troy Drops Tough One to No. 21 Auburn

AUBURN, Alabama – Troy dropped a tough one to No. 21 Auburn, 3-1, after holding Auburn scoreless for six out of seven innings of play on Sunday afternoon in Auburn, Alabama.
Katie Webb recorded two hits and knocked in Troy's lone run to lead the Trojans (12-5). Kelly Horne also recorded and hit with two walks on the day.
Talia Truitt led off the game with a walk. A sacrifice bunt by Madeline Porter put Truitt in scoring position for Katie Webb. Webb followed with a single to left field to score Truitt from second.
Annie Willis (5-2) allowed just two hits through the next three innings to keep Auburn off the board.
In the bottom of the fourth. The Tigers (13-3) Taylon Snow walked and Aspyn Godwin got on with a single to put two on with two outs. Justus Perry sent a long ball over the left field wall to give Auburn the lead.
Leanna Johnson (7-1) came in and closed out the game for Troy. Johnson gave up one hit and recorded two strikeouts to shut out Auburn through the remainder of the game. However, Troy's offense couldn't get anything going and dropped a close on to the Tigers.
Makayla Martin (6-1) earned her sixth win of the season as Auburn's ace.
Troy ended the weekend 3-2 with an extra innings loss to North Dakota State and a loss to No. 21 Auburn.
Troy travels to Tampa, Florida to play in the USF Invitational. Troy's first game will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1 against Furman.

Notes
- Leanna Johnson picked up two more wins this weekend after recording 33 strikeouts and a 0.74 ERA over 19 innings of work. Johnson lead the league in strikeouts coming into today.
- Bailey Taylor came into the weekend tied for 6th in the nation in RBIs. Taylor added 4 more this weekend bringing her season total to 21. Taylor also currently leads the conference in RBIs and HBPs.
- Katie Webb led the team offensively batting a .353 with six hits and two RBis.
