TROY, Alabama – Coming off a successful fall season, the Troy men's golf team hits the links for the first time since early November when the Trojans travel to Tallahassee, Fla., and the Golden Eagle Country Club for the Seminole Intercollegiate this weekend.
Teams will play 36 holes over two rounds on Saturday before wrapping up the event with 18 holes on Sunday at the par-72, 6,965-yard golf course.
"Our guys have been working hard all offseason, and the best we've played over the break has come in the last couple days," head coach Bart Barnes said. "Hopefully we're peaking and playing well at the best time. We've got some confidence from how we played in the fall and all our guys know they can go out and shoot under par at any time."
Trojan golfers combined for 11 rounds under par in four events in the fall compared to just a combined nine rounds under par the entire 2017-18 season. Connor Futrell and Will McFadden are responsible for three rounds in the red each while Dean Martin added a pair.
"Connor and Dean understand their roles as leaders and are getting more comfortable with that pressure," Barnes said. "We are a young team and will be playing three freshmen this week, so Connor and Dean will have to really embrace that role."
Futrell led Troy with a 72.91 stroke average in the fall followed closely by Martin's 73.13 mark. McFadden (75.00), Brent Hamm (75.20) and Bryson Bianco (78.67) are the three freshmen who will get the start in the spring opener.
"This is the home course for both Connor and Bryson so we're hoping for some good vibes from them," Barnes said. "Dean has looked like a No. 1 player in practice so far, so I'm excited to see that translate to the course."

Teams will play a shotgun start Saturday morning beginning at 7 a.m. (CT) and Troy will take the course along with Morehead State and Nicholls State. Sunday's play is slated to begin at 6:30 a.m. (CT).
