MONTGOMERY, Alabama – Matea Mihaljevic and Tingting Pei led the charge as the Troy women's tennis team obtained a 6-1 victory over Alabama State Wednesday at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.
The Trojans improve to 2-1 on the season while the Hornets fall to 1-6. Mihaljevic is rolling with a 3-0 record in singles action this season, second best in the Sun Belt Conference.
DOUBLES
• Mihaljevic and Pei won, 6-3, over Reka Szentes and Urska Velec.
• Pei Ju Hsieh and Chunxi Guo dominated in the second match with a 6-2 win over Lea Krajcovicova and Gabriela Lackova to claim the doubles point.
• Maria Casas Blas and Celia Montero Estevan defeated Maria Popova and Worthy Goldman, 6-3 to sweep doubles play.
SINGLES
• Mihaljevic won her match against Szentes 6-4, 7-5 to put the Trojans up, 2-0.
• Pei then defeated Krajcovicova 7-5, 6-1.
• Guo sealed the match for the Trojans with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Goloputova.
• Estevan added an additional point for Troy with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Urska Velec.
• Hsieh defeated Worthy Goldman 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot.
• Casas Blas dropped the final match against Popova 6-2, 7-5.
UP NEXT
The Trojans return to action at the Lunsford Tennis Complex as they take on Mercer and Southern Mississippi this weekend starting at 11a.m. on Saturday.
