Troy Falls to No. 9 Alabama in Final Game of the Trojan Classic

TROY, Alabama – Troy fell to No. 9 Alabama, 8-0, Sunday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex in the final game of the season-opening Trojan Classic.
Troy finished the opening weekend 3-2 with a pair of victories over Maryland out of the Big 10 and one win over Murray State.
Alabama (5-0) broke up a scoreless game with a seven-spot in the fourth inning. The Tide opened their big inning with a double followed by back-to-back singles to start the scoring. Another pair of singles with runners on stretched Alabama's lead to 7-0 at the end of the frame.
Troy (3-2) was unable to answer in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and a solo home run in the top of the sixth solidified a run-rule victory for Alabama.
Montana Foust (2-0) recorded her second win with the Tide after she scattered three hits and struck out four Troy batters over six innings of work. Leanna Johnson (2-1) suffered her first loss as a Trojan after she was charged with four runs on three hits over 3.2 innings.
Talia Truitt, Logan Calhoun and Bailey Taylor all scattered a hit to lead the Trojans, while Skylar Wallace went 1- or-2 with a pair of RBIs to lead the Tide.
Next up, Troy heads to Orlando, Fla., to compete in the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic. Troy's first game will be Friday morning at 11 a.m. (CT) against Stetson.

- In Troy's games against Alabama, Troy played in front of in front of two of its top three biggest crowds in history – 1,852 and 1,837.
- Bailey Taylor came into pinch hit three time over the weekend and went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
- Freshman Leanna Johnson recorded 19 strikeouts in 16.1 innings of work. Johnson also threw a one-hitter Saturday night against Murray State.
