Troy Splits on Opening Day of the Diamond 9 Classic

ORLANDO, Fla. – Troy opened a busy weekend in Florida by splitting a pair of games at the Diamond 9 Classic on Friday as the Trojans blasted Stetson, 14-0, in the opener before falling to Missouri, 6-0, in the second game of the day.
Annie Willis threw a one-hitter to lead Troy past Stetson. Bailey Taylor led the offensive effort for the Trojans (4-3) recording two hits and five RBIs with a grand slam. Katie Webb also added two hits and three RBIs for Troy. In the loss to Missouri, Logan Calhoun and Taila Truitt both recorded singles for Troy's only hits on the game.
Game One: Troy 14, Stetson 0
After a quiet first two innings, Troy exploded in the top of the third with nine runs off five hits.
Logan Calhoun and Maddie Porter both reached off of singles and Webb followed getting hit by a pitch to load the bases for Stephanie Snyder. Snyder drew a bases loaded walk to plate the Trojans' first run and Bailey Taylor followed with a blast over the left field wall to record her second career grand slam.
Hope Hernandez doubled to left center to score another run and two walks and a hit by pitch scored two more runs. The inning was capped off by a single Webb to score the ninth run.
Troy's bats stayed hot through the top of the fourth where Troy added five more runs off of six hits.
A trio of singles by Lively, Corbett, and Hernandez scored a run for Troy. Porter was hit by a pitch to set up Katie Webb for a two run dingle out the left side. Back-to-back singles by Snyder and Taylor capped off the five running inning for Troy.
Annie Willis (2-1) recorded her second win of the season, pitching all five innings and recording seven strikeouts for the Trojans. Stetson falls to 0-3 after recording just one hit off of Willis.
Game Two: Missouri 6, Troy 0
Missouri (4-2) scored in the top of first off of a sacrifice fly to give it the lead for good. The Tigers scored the next three innings before going scoreless in the remaining three innings.
Calhoun and Truitt recorded back to back singles in the top of the sixth for Troy's lone hits of the game.
Claire Graves (0-1) took the loss for Troy after allowed three runs on four hits in 1.2 innings of work. Peyton Glover pitched two-thirds of an inning before Leanna Johnson closed out the finally four innings for Troy with four strikeouts.
Madi Norman recorder her third win for the Tigers after recording three strikeouts. Geana Torres hit two homeruns in the game to lead the Tiger offense.

"Annie Willis pitched a great game in the opener and we played great defense behind her," head coach Beth Mullins said. "The offense had a lot of quality at bats which turned into a lot of runs. In game two, we again played really good defense but gave up too many freebies on the mound and just couldn't get the offense going and make adjustments soon enough."
