LAS VEGAS – Troy women's basketball travels to Las Vegas, Nev. to compete in the 2019 Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic at the South Point Hotel and Casino. The Trojans will take on Toledo Thursday at 4:30 p.m. (CT) followed by a game on Friday against Kent State at 2 p.m. (CT). All games will be played inside the South Point Hotel.
The 2019 Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic field features a competitive slate of six mid-major teams. The tournament will give fans two-days of exciting contests as four of the programs set to compete in Las Vegas earned postseason bids during the 2018-19 season.
The participating programs span coast to coast and include Georgia Southern, Kent State, Pacific, St. Francis Brooklyn, Toledo and Troy. Games will take place at the four-star South Point Hotel and Casino, a sprawling family-friendly entertainment resort.
Troy Trojans (7-2)
PPG: 82.8 | REB: 58.0 | FG%: .348 | 3FG%: .265 | FT%: .723
Troy enters the holiday hoops classic on a four-game winning streak after its 90-51 victory over Chattanooga on Sunday. The Trojans have been playing well in offense the last two games, posting their highest shooting percentages of the year in consecutive games. The strong shooting was highlighted against Chattanooga in the third-quarter when Troy outscored the Mocs 34-10, shooting 68 percent for the quarter. Troy has a big opportunity this weekend to close out the non-conference schedule on a high note. Playing both Toledo and Kent State gives the Trojans a chance to improve upon their already impressive RPI with two games against MAC schools, the highest rated mid-major conference in women's basketball each of the last four seasons.
Toledo Rockets (3-5)
PPG: 63.2 | REB: 37.2 | FG%: .409 | 3FG%: .277 | FT%: .632
Toledo has accumulated a 60-51 (.541) all-time ledger in tournament action, including an impressive 26-9 (.743) mark under head coach Tricia Cullop. The Rockets are coming off an impressive 82-64 victory at Detroit Mercy this past Saturday. Through the first eight games this year, Toledo continues to be fueled offensively by the quartet of Black, Santucci, Beacham and Davis, who are averaging 10.1, 9.4, 9.3 and 8.5 ppg, respectively.
Kent State Golden Flashes (5-3)
PPG: 72.4 | REB: 33.9 | FG%: .393 | 3FG%: .340 | FT%: .755
Prior to breaking for final exams, the Flashes lost at Purdue, 77-64, on December 9. The contest was extremely competitive with the exception of the final 5:06 of the first half in which the Boilermakers used a 12-2 run to lead by 14 at halftime. Despite being undersized, Kent State held its own around the basket. The Flashes finished even in paint scoring (28-28) and were outrebounded by just one (35-34). Asish Dingle led the way with 16 points and three assists. Lindsey Thall shot 3-for-5 from downtown and totaled 11 points. Megan Carter added 10 points and a career-high nine rebounds
All five starters are scoring in double-figures.
