Trojans hit the road for mid-week matchup at Jacksonville State

TROY, Ala. -- The Troy Trojans men's basketball program takes on in-state rival Jacksonville State Wednesday night at Pete Matthews Coliseum for the first time in nearly 20 years. The last matchup between Troy and JSU was way back in 2003, a 71-51 Trojan victory in Troy.

The matchup will be the Trojans penultimate non-conference matchup of the season, as the Trojans conclude the first part of the season Sunday afternoon at Chattanooga.

LAST TIME OUT- (Troy, 3-6)
The Trojans to extend a two-game winning streak Wednesday night at Jacksonville State. The Trojans will also be searching for the first road victory of the season. Troy is coming off the most complete performance of the season last Wednesday against North Alabama. Four different Trojans scored in double-figures, with a pair of Troy players adding nine. Troy forced 21 North Alabama turnovers, en route to an impressive 71-63 victory. Sophomore Zay Williams narrowly missed his first career double-double, as the big man added 15 points and nine rebounds, while Ty Gordon scored 10 points and added five assists. The Trojans recorded 16 offensive rebounds, which marked the eighth consecutive game that Troy recorded at least 10 offensive rebounds. Heading into tomorrow's matchup, the Trojans lead the Sun Belt Conference in assists-per-game (15.9) and are in the top-10 nationally in offensive rebounds per-game.
LAST TIME OUT- (Jacksonville State, 2-6)
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks enter Wednesday matchup having lost back-to-back to games overall, after dropping a heartbreaking 67-62 overtime decision at Alabama A&M. In that game, Jacksonville State recorded just 19 points in the second half, and 29 total points in the final two periods. Jacara Cross lead the way for the Gamecocks last Saturday evening, scoring 13 points. After shooting 52 percent in the opening half, JSU shot just 28 in the second half and overtime. In addition to Alabama A&M, Jacksonville State and Troy have one other common opponent, Chattanooga. The Mocs defeated the Gamecocks 63-60 two weeks ago at the Emerald Coast Classic. So far this season a pair of Gamecocks have scored in double-figures led by De'Torrion Ware (12.0 points, 6.0 rebounds) and Cross (11.1 points, 4.5 rebounds).

• Troy has recorded at least 10 offensive rebounds in eight straight contests. It's the longest streak for a Troy team since 2016-17, when Troy grabbed at least 10 rebounds in eight consecutive games (Dec. 1-23). The Trojans are 3-2 this season when they out-rebound their opponents, and currently rank in the top-five nationally in offensive rebounds.
• Troy has had at least four players score in double-figures in back-to-back games. Troy is 3-0 this season when at least four players score 10 points.
The Trojans have recorded six games with 15 or more assists this season. Against Shorter, the Trojans recorded their first 20 assist performance since Dec. 16, 2018 at Western Kentucky.
• Troy freshmen Jakevan Leftridge and Desmond Williams made their Troy debuts against Shorter. Originally scheduled to redshirt, Leftridge and Williams also earned their first career starts that afternoon. Troy is 2-0 when Leftridge and Williams play.
• The Trojans are 3-1 this season when holding teams to fewer than 65 points. Troy's lone loss when holding a team below that mark was at Texas A&M (56-52, loss).

Junior Davion Thomas has turned it on as of late for the Trojans, reaching double-figures in back-to-back games. The Columbus, Ga. native has recorded three games with at least 12 points and has scored 30 points in the last two games. On Wednesday night, Thomas scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds in Troy's big victory over North Alabama.
