Trojans Open Sun Belt Tournament Wednesday Afternoon vs. Louisiana

TROY, Ala. -- The Troy Trojans women's soccer program opens the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Tournament Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. against Louisiana.
Wednesday's matchup at the Foley Sports Complex will be the second consecutive matchup between the two teams. The second-seeded Trojans (12-2-4, 7-1-2 Sun Belt) and seventh-seeded Ragin' Cajuns (8-7-3, 4-4-2) met 10 days ago in Lafayette, with Troy earning a hard fought 2-1 overtime victory.
After falling behind 1-0 on a penalty kick in the 54th minute, the Trojans found the equalizer with just 109 seconds remaining in the match when Taytum Terrell buried a loose ball in the box.
With all of the momentum, Troy quickly scored the game winner, when Alisa Detlefsen rocketed the game-winner just four minutes into the overtime period. The Trojans have won three straight over Louisiana, and six of the last seven.

Troy enters the postseason riding high, having won seven of eight. The Trojans are unbeaten over that span, having earned a 1-1 tie at Arkansas State back on Oct. 11. Troy's last defeate occurred on Sept. 22 at Coastal Carolina.
SWEET HOME ALABAMA:
The Trojans are 8-1-2 in games played in the state of Alabama this season. Troy completed an undefeated 7-0-1 mark at the Troy Soccer Complex this season, and went 1-0-1 at the Jaguar Classic (hosted by South Alabama) back in August. Troy's lone setback in Alabama occurred at Auburn back on Sept. 8.
FOUR EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Maddie Brune, Kiersten Edlund, Kate Eubanks and Haleigh Mercer each earned All-Sun Belt honors the conference announced Tuesday. Eubanks, a first team all-conference selection, scored three goals and tallied a pair of assists. Serving as a center-back, Eubanks helped anchor a Trojans defense that allowed just 16 goals in 18 matches this season.
A key contributor to the Trojan turnaround this season, Brune earned an all-conference recognition for the first time in her career. The midfielder scored three times and set up four other strikes and was one of five Trojans who recorded 10 or more points.
One of the best facilitators in the country, Edlund scored four times and recorded 12 assists (a new Troy record) this season. Her 12 assists are currently tied for the fifth most in the country and lead the Sun Belt.
Coming off the strongest season of her career, Mercer also earned all-conference honors for the first time. The goalie has recorded a goals-against-average of 0.90 this season and has recorded 89 saves, the most in the Sun Belt this season.
SUN BELT FORMAT
The Trojans enter the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the second overall seed. The winner of Wednesday's matchup will meet the winner of Arkansas State and Texas State on Friday at 4 p.m. Other action on Wednesday includes the ASU/Texas State game at 10 a.m., a matchup between top-seeded South Alabama and Georgia Southern at 4 p.m., and Coastal Carolina and Georgia State at 7 p.m.
The winner of the ASU/Texas State game will meet the winner of Troy/Louisiana at 4 p.m., with the other semifinal matchup set to kick off at 7 p.m. between the South Alabama/Georgia Southern winner and the winner of Coastal Carolina and Georgia State.
The Sun Belt championship game is set to kick off on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. from the Foley Sports Complex. All seven matches will appear live on ESPN+ and live stat links are available for all of the matchups.
TROJAN ATTACK
The Trojans scored 41 goals this season in just 18 matches. The Trojans 41 total goals were the second most in the Sun Belt this season. The Trojans 24 Sun Belt Conference goals were the most in the conference this season. Troy has scored at least one goal in 12 consecutive matches and scored in every Sun Belt match this season. The 41 total goals are the most in a season since 2014 and are the third most in school history. Troy needs just one more goal tie the 2003 Trojans output of 42. Troy's 123 total points (41 goals, 41 assists) ties the second highest output in school history (2014). The Trojans need to tally just 17 more points to equal the highest total (140) in program history, which was set in 2001.

Troy goalie Haleigh Mercer has recorded a career year in 2019. The second team all-conference selection has recorded at least five saves in four consecutive matches and has eight games with five or more saves. Her .848 save percentage was the second-best mark in the Sun Belt, and her 89 overall saves are the most in the SBC.
