TROY, Ala. – All the cards are on the table, with no ace left in the hole for Troy when it plays host to No. 22 Appalachian State at The Vet Friday evening. It's simple for the Trojans, a win on Senior Day and they are bowl eligible, a loss and the season comes to an end. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Trojans (5-6, 3-4 Sun Belt) have won two of their last three games heading into the regular season finale and will look to a core of seniors to carry the weight Friday with a potential bowl invitation on the line for the fourth straight season. Fans will want to be in their seats by 4:30 p.m. to ensure they witness the Senior Day recognition.
"Winning this game on Friday is important for a number of reasons," head coach Chip Lindsey said. "First of all, a win would give us the opportunity to make a bowl game, which would allow us to get the offseason started correctly. Then you have added storyline of it being our seniors last home game here at The Vet and you'd love to send those guys out the right way, which is something our team is rallying around."
On the offensive side of the ball, quarterback Kaleb Barker plays behind a trio of seniors on the offensive line – Kirk Kelley, J.L. Gaston and Tristan Crowder. Troy's offense is on pace for a record-setting season with a school best 35.73 points per game.
Defensively, bandit and captain Jarvis Hayes looks to return to the lineup after missing the last two games to anchor a defensive front that also includes seniors Marcus Webb at defensive end and Travis Sailo at defensive tackle.
The challenge is a stiff one with App State coming to The Vet as the only ranked Group of Five team with a pair of road wins over Power Five teams – South Carolina and North Carolina. The Mountaineers will become the third ranked opponent to play at Troy joining No. 17 Missouri in 2004 and No. 22 Boise State last year.
Know Your Foe
App State has clinched the Sun Belt East Division and is playing for homefield advantage in the title game. The Mountaineers lone loss came at home to Georgia Southern, a team that Troy beat 49-28 the following week. App State is led offensively by Darrynton Evans' 14 touchdowns and 106.2 rushing yards per game. Defensively, App State is 19th nationally allowing just 19.3 points per game.
Notable
• Troy has scored 393 points this season, which is the most in school history through 11 games ... Troy's 35.73 scoring average would set a school record.
• Kaleb Barker's 30 touchdown passes are the most by a Troy quarterback through the first 11 games of a season in at least the DI era and second most in Sun Belt history; his 3,330 passing yards are the second most in Troy's DI history.
• Junior receiver Kaylon Geiger is 10 receptions shy of tying Jerrel Jernigan's single-season receptions record of 74.
• Troy has forced a nation's best 102 turnovers over the last four seasons, including a nation's best 67 interceptions.
