TROY, Ala. – Already three tournaments deep into the season, the Troy men's golf teams is back on the course Sunday thru Tuesday for the Intercollegiate at The Grove hosted by Middle Tennessee.
The Trojans have had solid returns through their first three events with a 32-11-2 record and a team score within half a stroke of par for the year paced by junior Connor Futrell's 69.67 stroke average and -2.00 score vs. par.
Futrell has finished second, third and 13th in his three tournaments this year with six of his nine rounds under par with all six at 3-under or lower.
"For the set of skills and the guys we have in the lineup right now, this golf course sets up a little bit better for us than it did two years ago," head coach Bart Barnes said. "I think overall we are a little bit better of a ball striking team, and I think we can handle the length. I'm excited to see where we're going as a team.
The middle of Barnes' lineup has been solid as well in the early returns with Jake Tiffin, Will McFadden and Brent Hamm all within a stroke-and-a-half of par on the year.
Tiffin has shot five rounds under par on the season and enters the weekend with a 72.44 stroke average and 0.78 score vs. par, while McFadden carries a 72.67 average and 1.00 score vs. par on the year. Hamm is one tournament removed from a second-place finish at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate following three rounds under par at the event. His bring a 1.33 score vs. par and 73.00 stroke average to The Grove.
Ryan Morrison rounds out the lineup for Barnes after playing three of his last five rounds within two strokes of par. The Trojans will also have a pair of players competing as individuals with Bryson Bianco making his second appearance of the season and Kyle Cornelius making his Troy debut after redshirting last year.
