Connor Futrell turned in another solid round with an even-par 72 thanks to three birdies and three bogeys – all on the front nine. Futrell is tied for 10th place following just his fourth non-under par round out of 10 this year.
"We played a course that has hosted Regionals and is a championship-level golf course," head coach Bart Barnes said. "Par is a good score at The Grove, and we got off to a good start. We just need to keep our blinders on tomorrow and play our game plan – hit a bunch of greens and be patient."
Troy's third player in the top 20 is Jake Tiffin at 1-over par with a pair of birdies to end the day tied for 16th place. Ryan Morrison fired a 4-over 76 with one birdie and is tied for 37th place, and Brent Hamm sits tied for 71st at 8-over.
