NEW ORLEANS -- The Troy Trojans soccer team will open the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Tournament next Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 6) at 1 p.m. against Louisiana the Sun Belt Conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
"Louisiana is a very good team," head coach Ged O'Connor said. "It was a difficult game for us coming off a tough game at Texas State last Friday, but they're a very dangerous team. They're led by an excellent coaching and coaching staff and it should be another challenge matchup for both teams. I don't expect the game to be anything like last weekend's matchup because we have a familiarity with them."
The tournament begins next Wednesday (Nov. 6) at 10 a.m. with a matchup between Arkansas State and Texas State, before the Trojans and Ragin' Cajuns meet. Day One continues with a 4 p.m. matchup between top-seeded South Alabama and Georgia Southern, while Georgia State and Coastal Carolina will meet at 7 p.m. to conclude the opening day.
After a day off on Thursday, action continues with the Semifinals on Friday (Nov. 8) beginning at 4 p.m. with Arkansas State or Texas State meeting either Troy or Louisiana. The second semifinal matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. between the winners of the South Alabama/Little Rock matchup and the Coastal Carolina/Georgia State matchup.
The tournament is set to wrap-up on Sunday (Nov. 10) with a 1 p.m. Championship match between Friday's Semifinals winners.
Finishing the regular season with a program-best 23 Sun Belt points, the Trojans earned the second overall seed. The Trojans have never won the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and are looking for the program's first postseason victory since 2015 when Troy defeated Georgia Southern 3-0 in the opening round of that year's tournament.
"Having to play three-games in five days doesn't necessarily produce the best overall product, but it's the way the tournament has to be setup. Each team just needs to prepare and hopefully everyone stays healthy, which should lead to seven great games. We just need our girls to focus on the details and their individual preparation. All of the teams have a long time to prepare so every team should be fresh which should make for a great tournament."
