Holmes, James Lead Troy to Rout of Louisiana

TROY, Alabama – Sky'Lynn Holmes and Japonica James turned in monster performances to lead Troy to a 90-64 win over Louisiana on Saturday in Trojan Arena.
Holmes finished the game with 15 points, 20 rebounds and five assists. The rebound mark was the second-highest of her career (21) and just two behind tying the program's single-game record of 22 set by Caitlyn Ramirez in 2017.
James made her first eight field goal attempts and led the team with 16 points, she also posted three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Troy (16-3, 7-1 SBC) lead for all but 2:17 en route to its fourth straight win over Louisiana and 10thstraight in Trojan Arena. The Trojans have now won 11 consecutive games at home in Sun Belt Conference play.
The Trojans opened the game white hot making seven of its first nine shots and going on a 21-3 run in the opening quarter to take a 29-11 lead after 10 minutes. The lead ballooned to 25 points in the second quarter as Troy was 6-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Ragin' Cajuns didn't go away quietly battling back to cut the Troy lead to just eight, 55-47 midway through the third quarter, but the Trojans used a 10-0 run coming out of a timeout to regain control and eventually building a 28-point advantage.
Louisiana's Ty'Reona Doucet entered the game ranked 10thin the league averaging 14 points per game and second with 9.8 boards per contest, but was contained masterfully going just 2-of-3 from the field to finish with four points and two rebounds.
Brandi Williams paced the Ragin' Cajuns (5-13, 3-4) with 18 points and was perfect from the field shooting 5-of-5 and 7-of-7 from the free throw line.
Kayla Robinson scored 13 points and has finished in double digits in eight of her last 10 games. Shaterrika O'Neal was 3-of-4 from three-point range and turned in 12 points.
QUOTABLE
"We let them go on a pretty good run in the middle of the game, but overall we put together a good game," Troy head coach Chanda Rigby said. "Sky'Lynn Holmes and Japonica James had a great game and they didn't have an answer for them."
UP NEXT
Troy gets an extra day of practice as South Alabama is the lone game on the docket next week. The Trojans visit Mobile Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip.
