BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Three school records were rewritten Friday as Troy indoor track and field wrapped up its first meet of the new year at the UAB Blazer Invitational in the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Â
Senior Tiarra Bailey shattered the school's indoor 600m record by almost five seconds and finished seventh in the event. Meanwhile, sophomores Jared Hayes and Precious Ogba set the indoor 300m records in their respective events – Hayes finished fourth and Ogba placed 15th.
Â
A couple of individuals came just shy of placing their names at the top of the school record list. Alexandria Rankin crossed the line about three seconds behind Bailey for the 600m record, and Amir Harris was a half-second behind Hayes for the 300m.
Â
Aside from the school record lists, a few other student-athletes turned in the top performances of their respective indoor careers – Amber Gordon in the long jump, Brittany Trawick in the triple jump and Tyree Reed in the 60m.
Â
All of Troy's success Friday was against some of the top teams in the southeast, including No. 5/8 Georgia, No. 7/13 Alabama, Auburn and Miami.
Â
Quotable – Troy Track and Field Director Marc Davis
"Today we faced some very good competition. Anytime we compete against Power 5 competition we know we have to step up in a big way. Some of the athletes were a little rusty with the competition lay-off over break, but we got a chance to see where we are. We had three school records, some finalists and some top 10 finishes, so all in all we had a good day."
Â
The Trojans will head right back to the CrossPlex next Thursday and Friday as they get set to compete in the Samford Combined Events.
