Troy Falls to Arkansas State in Conference Opener

JONESBORO, Ark. – Troy volleyball fell in three sets to Arkansas State to open Sun Belt Conference play Friday night at First National Bank Arena.
Cheyenne Hayes' and Belle Waldrop's 24 combined kills were not enough for the Trojans (6-8) as they fell 3-0 (22-25, 24-26, 18-25) to the Red Wolves (9-5). Hayes has now recorded double-digit kills in 12 straight games for Troy.
The Trojans were out front early in the opening set – 12-9 – before the Red Wolves went on a five-point rally to flip the momentum. Troy regained the lead at 21-20 before A-State was able to come away with the win.
In the second frame, the two teams went back-and-forth for most of the set. Troy got off to another quick start and held a lead late, but the Red Wolves were able to take back control and take the set, 26-24.
A-State was able to close the match out in the third for their eighth straight victory this season and their eighth straight win over the Trojans.
Notable
• Cheyenne Hayes' impressive double digit kill streak continued as she recorded 14 Friday. The sophomore has now done so in 12 straight games – 12 of Troy's 14 games this season.
• The Sun Belt's assist leader, Amara Anderson, led all players with 35 assists in the three-set match. She entered the weekend as the only player in the league with 500+ assists.
• Troy fell to 1-18 all-time against Arkansas State and 0-10 against the Red Wolves in Jonesboro.
