TROY, Ala. – Thanks to generous donations from several Troy alums and supporters, the Troy men's and women's golf programs are the proud owners of two state-of-the-art Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Vans to use for team travel and recruiting.
Â
Each of the two vans can accommodate up to eight passengers plus a driver and have separate storage units in the rear of the vehicle to store clubs, bags, shoes and any other cargo necessary for competition.
Â
"This sends a huge message to the rest of the golf world that Troy is serious about college golf," women's head coach Randy Keck said. "From a recruiting standpoint, when you can roll up to a junior event in one of those vans and the kids see it, that's a big deal. The words 'thank you' are not enough appreciation to those who made this happen."
Â
The vans feature Wi-Fi accessibility and individual study stations for each of the student-athletes to assist with their school work when traveling to and from competitions. Additionally, the interior includes leather seats with Troy logos stitched into the headrests, satellite television and a state-of-the-art entertainment system.
Â
"These vans show the commitment that Troy University and Troy Athletics have to our student-athletes," men's head coach Bart Barnes said. "It allows the student-athletes the opportunity to study in comfort when on the road and demonstrates that we are providing them every opportunity to succeed. We have some of the best donors out there and they care so much about our student-athletes, we are very appreciative for their support."
Â
The golf programs moved into their new practice facility in the fall of 2015 including the 4,400-square foot clubhouse. The new home of Troy golf features men's and women's locker rooms, coaches' locker room, three coach offices, team lounge, two indoor hitting bays, large indoor bay for full shots and putting.
"'This project was very important to our golf programs, as we continue to grow and build on our past successes," Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain commented. "This is a big step forward that shows how committed we are to trying to provide the best resources possible to our student-athletes. On that note, this project was completed funded by private dollars and would have never become a reality without the commitment and generous support of several key donors. To them we say a big "Thank You'!"
