Troy Set for Matchup with No. 10 Florida State

TROY, Alabama –The Troy soccer team will make a second trip to the Sunshine State, this time to face No. 10 Florida State at 5 p.m. (CT) at the Seminole Soccer Complex on Sunday.

The Trojans (1-0-0) earned a 2-0 win at Jacksonville to open the season on Thursday. Senior Natalie Melillo and junior captain Maddie Brune scored goals in the victory as eight players made their debuts for Troy.

Florida State (1-0-0) took its season opener, 1-0, over Vanderbilt  on Thursday improving to 13-1-0 on opening day under head coach Mark Krikorian, including an 8-0-0 mark at home. The Seminoles hold a 3-0 lead in the all-time series against the Trojans; the teams last played in 2017 when Troy took and early 1-0 lead before conceding four goals.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
The No. 10 Seminoles (1-0-0) controlled possession and offensive chances throughout the match, earning a 1-0 win over Vanderbilt (0-1-0) to open 2018 at the Seminole Soccer Complex on Thursday.
The Noles outshot the Commodores 12-2 and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. FSU did not allow Vanderbilt to get a corner kick until the 76th minute and the first shot of the game for the Commodores came in the 78th minute. Senior Natalia Kuikka scored the game-winner in the 56th minute, the eighth goal of her career for the season-opening win.
NOTEWORTHY
• The last time Troy visited Tallahassee was in 2016; the Trojans forced overtime with the top-ranked Seminoles ultimately falling, 1-0.
