MOBILE, Alabama- South Alabama (28-25, 13-13) swept Troy (30-24, 14-13 SBC) 11-1 and 1-0, the only team to sweep the Trojans this season, in Sunday's regular season finales. The Trojans fell to the Jags 7-0 in the first game of the series earlier in the year at the Troy Softball Complex on April 18.
Â
Game one: South Alabama 11, Troy 1
The Jaguars offense was unstoppable in game one of the doubleheader, as South Alabama combined for 10 runs in the second and third innings. Two multi-RBI home runs in the second and a three-run shot in the third sparked the momentum.
Â
The long balls continued to fly for the Jaguars as Haleigh Lowe hit a three-run shot in the third inning as South Alabama took a 10-0 lead. The final run of the game for the Jaguars came across on an RBI-double from Kamden Kvistad.
Â
Troy put four hits on the board, but struggled to make plays with runners in scoring position. Taylor Corbett scored Troy's lone run of the game as Logan Calhoun brought her home on a sacrifice fly, but the Jags' 10-run lead after five innings sealed the victory for South Alabama.
Â
The pitchers split the time in the circle for the Trojans, but it was Annie Willis who earned the start and took the loss. In one inning of work, she gave up three hits and three runs. Claire Graves toed the rubber as relief and tossed two complete innings, but gave up seven hits and eight runs. Freshman Kynsley Rae Blasingame closed out the game not allowing any runs or hits. She tossed two strikeouts and only walked one batter.
Â
Devin Brown continued to stun the Trojans at the plate, picking up her 17th win of the season. Brown allowed four hits and struck out four.
Â
Â
Game two: South Alabama 1, Troy 0
Troy's defense had a better grip on the Jaguars in game two, but a late run on an RBI-double was enough to lift South Alabama to the sweep over the Trojans. Troy posted four hits once again, but continued to fall short of scoring.
Â
It was a pitchers duel through five innings as Peyton Glover and Alexis Reid led the charge for both defenses. Neither team could plate a run until the bottom of the sixth when South Alabama crossed the plate in the bottom of the sixth, Lowe's fifth RBI of the day.
Â
Troy rallied back as Carli Kayler singled up the middle in the seventh and stole second to get in scoring position, but a groundout to third base ended the opportunity for Troy to tie the game.
Â
Junior Peyton Glover threw a complete game, but took the loss to move to 10-9 on the season. She allowed five hits, one earned run and fanned two batters.
