4/27/2018 3:26:00 PM | Softball
TROY, Alabama- The league-leading No. 21 Texas State Bobcats (36-10, 15-2 SBC) will make the trip to Troy (28-21, 12-10 SBC) for a three-game Sun Belt series, the final home games of the season for the Trojans. Saturday will feature a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m., and Sunday will be Senior Day as Erica Davis, Carli Kayler and Cassidy McDilda will be recognized. First pitch on Sunday is set for noon at the Troy Softball Complex.
Â
The Trojans enter the contests after dropping a midweek non-conference meeting against No. 25 Mississippi State on Wednesday. Madeline Porter avoided the no-hitter, as Troy got the first of two base runners on in the bottom of fifth inning.
Â
Troy has had solid offensive production, but Katie Webb and Logan Calhoun continue to power the Trojans at the plate. Webb leads with .354 at the plate, 57 hits and 36 RBI, while Calhoun has scored a run 44 times, a team and Sun Belt-high.
Â
Defensively, the cardinal and white have posted a top-20 national fielding percentage with .974, and are on pace to have the fewest errors in program history. Pitcher Annie Willis has been at the forefront of the Troy defense with a 2.44 ERA and 105 strikeouts through 137.2 innings of work. Her 38 earned runs is the second lowest in the league, behind Texas State's Randi Rupp.
Â
Rupp has powered the Bobcats with the second most strikeouts in the nation. The senior was voted Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year last season and earned the pre-season honors this year. Rupp has been named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week five times this season. Â She was also recently named a finalist for the 2018 Collegiate Player of the Year.
Â
At the plate for the Bobcats, sophomore transfer Hailey MacKay leads the squad in batting average (.383), hits (51), home runs (10), and RBI (36). Â Troy will look to hold the Bobcats to less than four runs as Texas State is a perfect 25-0 when plating at least four runs in a game.
