TROY, Alabama – Troy University men's tennis head coach Scott Kidd announced Monday that he will resign his position following the conclusion of the 2018 season. Kidd is currently in his fifth season at Troy and led the Trojans to the 2015 Sun Belt Conference championship.
"I would like to thank the athletic administration for giving me this wonderful opportunity and entrusting me to coach the men's tennis program at Troy University," Kidd said. "It has been a wonderful experience to be back home and work with some amazing people here at Troy. I have had the opportunity to coach some talented young men over these five years, and winning the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Championships was unbelievable experience for us all.
"I have learned so much as a coach during my time here at Troy University," Kidd said. "I am saddened but excited about the next chapter for my career and life. I will never forget all people who have supported Troy men's tennis in our community and University. I have no doubt that Troy men's tennis will continue to build and be the successful program it has always been. Go Trojans."
Kidd led Troy to a 62-49 dual match record entering the 2017-18 campaign and the Trojans are currently 9-9 this season with five matches remaining before the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in April.
"I want to thank Scott for his commitment to Troy University and our student-athletes," Athletics Director Jeremy McClain said. "We wish him nothing but the best in the future. His efforts with our men's tennis program on the court have brought a high level of success, and we will look to build on that success as we begin the search for our next head coach."
During Troy's Sun Belt Championship run, Kidd was named the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year after guiding the Trojans to a 25-7 overall record as he turned around a program that posted an 8-17 mark in his first season.
Kidd joined the Troy staff following three seasons as an assistant at Clemson and a six-year run as a head coach at Auburn-Montgomery.
Troy will immediately begin a national search for Kidd's replacement.
