CONWAY, South Carolina – Troy snapped a nine match losing streak dating back to the 2006 season against Georgia State (9-12), defeating the Panthers 4-3 on Sunday. The Trojans improve to 4-10 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
With the match tied up a 3-3, freshman Pei Ju Hsieh clinched the win on court five, defeating Lara Vovk 7-5, 6-2.
Troy earned the early doubles point as Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky breezed past the pair from Gerogia State 6-1 on court one. Georgia State was a player short in the match, resulting in a default win for Troy on the third court in doubles.
Georgia State stormed back taking the first two matches in singles competition to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead, but Troy remained calm and evened things up with a 6-0, 7-5 victory for Jiayuan Xue on court two.
Georgia State's Kristin Rehse took the win over Sanae Ohta 6-4, 6-0 but Maria Casas Blas did not have a player to face, so once again Troy earned a free victory tying the match and turning all eyes to court five where Hsieh delivered a huge win to lift the Trojans over the Panthers.
