MOBILE, Alabama- In the first match of a five-match road swing, Troy continued to look solid on the courts as they took down UTSA 4-2 in Mobile, Ala., on Saturday.
UTSA took the first doubles point on court one as Denisa Ibrahimovic and Kylee Kato defeated Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky 6-4. But Troy was resilient as Efriliyah Herlina and Jiayuan Xue tied the match with a 6-3 win on court two. Freshman Maria Casas Blas and Pei Ju Hsieh didn't mind the pressure as they clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory on court three.
Hsieh kept the momentum going picking up the first singles win with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sofie Boers. Matea Mihaljevic made her first appearance of the day, defeating Kato 6-2, 6-3.
UTSA bounced back, picking up the next two wins 6-4, 6-1 and 6-0, 7-6 to cut Troy's lead to one. With the clinching point on the line, Herlina remained composed and defeated Laura Cabrera in a gritty 7-6, 6-4 match, giving the Trojans their second win of the season.
Troy will continue its road swing as it travels to Macon, Ga., to face Mercer before heading west to Texas to take on UTA, SMU and North Texas.
