Trojans Can’t Overcome Knights

ORLANDO- With a few players out, Troy (0-2) was forced to forfeit on a couple of courts and struggled to gain momentum in the match as the UCF Knights defeated the Trojans 7-0 on Sunday on the USTA National Campus.
UCF gained an early 1-0 lead as the Knights took two straight matches on the doubles courts. Senior Sanae Ohta played with freshman partner Matea Mihaljevic for the first time and the spark was slow to ignite as the duo was defeated 6-0 on court one.
Another senior/freshman duo, Jiayuan Xue and Pei Ju Hsieh rallied back from two sets down to even their match at 6-6, but fell just short of overcoming the pair from UCF 7-6 (7-2).
Troy struggles to get points on the board in singles play. Mihaljevic was the first player done, but fell in two sets 6-0, 6-1 to Silvia Bordes. Xue followed with a tough 6-0, 6-0 loss against Maria Martinez and Ohta finished third with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat on court one.
All eyes turned to freshman Hsieh on court four. She suffered her first loss of the season after a hard fought 6-1, 6-3 match to senior Emilia Granstrom.
UP NEXT
The Trojans will make a trip out East to Lynchburg, Va., to take on Elon and Liberty February 10 and 11. Saturday's match against Elon is slated for 9 a.m., while first serve for Sunday's match is set for 10 a.m.
