TROY, Alabama- Powerful hitting for Tennessee Tech (3-11) lifted the Golden Eagles over the Trojans 9-3 on Sunday at the Troy Softball Complex.
Tennessee Tech got the momentum going with a five-run first inning, with three doubles and a triple before the Trojans were able to find their way out of the inning.
Troy (8-6) put a small dent in the score as Logan Calhoun led-off the bottom of the first with a double and a sacrifice bunt from Madeline Porter advanced her to third. Katie Webb stepped to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly, bringing Calhoun across the plate to make it 5-1.
In the second inning, Brooke Echols doubled into right center field to put a runner on with one out. Junior Taylor Corbett added another double, scoring Echols but a strikeout ended the inning before the Trojans could get within two.
The Golden Eagles added to the lead with a double and RBI single in the third to make it a 6-2 game. Troy got out of the fourth unscathed, but another big Tennessee Tech inning stretched the lead to 9-2 in the fifth.
Troy continued to slowly scratch away at Tennessee Tech's lead as Echols hit her second double of the day in the sixth, bringing Erica Davis in from first, but the Golden Eagles ended the inning before Troy could get any more runners on base.
Kynsley Rae Blasingame earned her second start in the circle, but was relieved by junior Peyton Glover after giving up five runs in the first inning.
