TROY, Alabama- The Trojans started the afternoon with an exciting 3-2 win over Tennessee Tech (2-9) as Erica Davis hit her first home run of the season, but Troy fell to UAB 1-0 in the nightcap on day one of the Trojan Classic.
Troy (7-4) combined for seven hits on the day, posting five against Tennessee Tech and just two in its loss to in-state rival UAB (4-8).
Game one: Troy 3, Tennessee Tech 2
The game was gridlocked at 0-0 until the fourth inning when Davis got a nice bounce off of the fence to go out for her first home run of the year and the team's third long ball of the season.
Tennessee Tech finally got on the board in the sixth inning with an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. Stephanie Snyder answered back with a double into right center and Kyndal Riddick entered the game to pinch run to put a runner in scoring position, with no outs for the Trojans. A fly ball advanced Riddick to third and a passed ball allowed her to score.
Another RBI single, this time from Brooke Echols brought Erica Davis home from third, giving the Trojans a 3-1 lead
Annie Willis was strong in the circle for the Trojans, but ended her day on back-to-back walks in the top of the seventh putting the tying run on base. Peyton Glover came in as relief in a save-situation. The bases soon become loaded with a fielder's choice, but not out was made by the Trojans.
The Troy defense made two straight outs, but a bases-loaded walk brought in a run for the Golden Eagles. With the tying run on third and two outs, Carli Kayler made a great catch in centerfield to give the Trojans their seventh win of the season.
Willis made her second start in the circle and earned the win to move to 2-1 on the year. She threw six strikeouts and only allowed three hits. Glover entered in the seventh inning and earned her first save of the season, closing the door allowing no hits and no runs.
Game Two: Troy 0, UAB 1
A defensive battle kept both teams from scoring runs in game two, but UAB's solo home run in the first inning was just enough to lift the Blazers over the Trojans.
With two outs away in the first inning, Analyse Petree launched a ball on the first pitch she saw, giving UAB an early 1-0 lead in the game.
Troy got its first base runner on as Madeline Porter took a hit by pitch in the bottom of the first, but back-to-back strikeouts left her stranded on first.
UAB recorded hits in the second and third innings, but the Troy defense kept them off the plate.
In the third, Carli Kayler struck out swinging, but reached base on a passed ball by the catcher. Porter followed with a single and both runners advance on a UAB throwing error. However, the Trojans couldn't convert any runs as another strikeout ended the Troy scoring opportunity.
Junior Taylor Corbett entered the game in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and kept Troy in the game with an infield single, but a ground out on the next play left her stranded and gave Troy its fourth loss of the season.
Claire Graves threw all seven innings, faced 29 batters and gave up seven hits, but only one run. With the loss, Graves moves to 3-3 on the year.
