Troy Indoor Takes on Sun Belt Championships

TROY, Ala. – Troy indoor track and field is prepared for its biggest competition of the season and are headed to the Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships set for Monday and Tuesday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

The championships will be covered live on ESPN3 beginning at 4 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

The championships, themselves, begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday with the combined events, beginning with the heptathlon. Field events begin at noon with running events starting at 4:15 p.m. The awards presentation is scheduled to begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Trojans will be led by sprinter Niata Alexander, thrower Indiya Summerville and hurdler Camille Franks in the championships.

Alexander is seeded second in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash, while sitting at fourth in the 60 meters – she also leads the second-ranked women's 4x4-meter relay team. Summerville is the top seed in the women's shot put and Franks is fourth in the 60-meter hurdles.

• Indiya Summerville broke her own school record in the shot put in the first three meets of the year.

• All but one of Troy's seven indoor meets will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex – including the Sun Belt Indoor Championships tomorrow.

• The December 1 meet marked the earliest start in Troy's track and field history.

• Five returning Trojans have NCAA postseason experience entering this year. Junior Hakim Montgomery has earned a trip in each of his first two seasons.
