JACKSONVILLE, Alabama – Troy closed out non-conference play with a 26-point thrashing of rival Jacksonville State, 89-63, Saturday in Pete Mathews Coliseum.
The Trojans (9-2) dominated the middle quarters outscoring the Gamecocks, 51-25 in the two frames while holding JSU to just 6-of-28 shooting over that span. After hitting three of its first seven 3-pointers, Jacksonville State missed its next 13 shots from beyond the arc opening the door for Troy to take control of the contest.
Amber Rivers led all scorers with a season-high 20 points on 5-of-9 shooting and 10-of-14 from the free throw line. Shaterrika O'Neal was the only other Trojan in double figures with 11 points; seven players scored at least six points.
The Gamecocks (6-5) opened with solid shooting from the field knocking down 5-of-12 shots in the first quarter. Yamia Johnson hit back-to-back 3-pointers midway through the opening frame to give JSU an 8-7 lead before the Trojans hauled in consecutive offensive boards to back ahead.
The Trojans used a late second quarter run to open an 11-point advantage at halftime scoring 22 of their 43 points in the paint. On the back of a 17-2 run in the third period, Troy outscored Jacksonville State 26-9 in the frame. The Gamecocks were slowed offensively and managed to convert just one of their final 11 shots of the quarter.
Brianna Perry led the Gamecocks with 14 points. Johnson had 12 points while Destiney Elliott added 11.

NOTEWORTHY
• Troy entered the game with the nation's 17thbest 3-point defense holding opponent to 24.9 percent shooting from range. Jacksonville State managed to shoot just 15 percent (3-20) on the day from beyond the arc.
• The teams combined to shoot 47-of-68 from the free throw line.
• For the third time in the last four games, the Trojans finished with 30-plus offensive rebounds (33).
• Janiah Sandifer was 3-for-3 from 3-point range and finished with nine points.
