Troy, Ala. – Troy men's basketball will face its second Conference-USA opponent in as many games when it travels to Birmingham, Ala., to face in-state foe UAB on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Trojans (5-5) earned a huge non-conference win over Western Kentucky, 87-81, on Sunday in E. A. Diddle Arena. Troy shot a season-high 48 percent (12-of-25) from three and registered back-to-back games of shooting more than 50 percent from the field after shooting 54.1 percent (33-of-61).

Senior Alex Hicks paced the Trojans with a 20-point performance including a career-high three three-pointers made. Hicks also posted seven rebounds, two steals an assist and a block. Fellow senior Jordon Varnado added a double double, his third of the season, in 19 points and 11 boards alongside four assists, two steals and a block.

Varnado leads the Trojans averaging 16.0 points per game, 10th in the Sun Belt Conference and 7.7 rebounds per game, fourth in conference. Hicks follows behind Varnado averaging 7.4rpg, fifth-most in SBC. Senior BJ Miller paces Troy averaging 3.1 assists per game.

Scouting UAB
UAB (7-4) cruised past Alcorn State, 76-49 to improve to 5-0 in home games this year. In the game, sophomore Makhtar Gueye poured in a career-high 15 points on 6-of-9 from the field alongside five boards and three assists. Senior Jalen Perry added 17 points on an efficient 6-of-7 clip from the field including a perfect 3-of-3 mark from behind the arc with four rebounds, a pair of assists and two steals.

Sophomore Zack Bryant leads the Blazers with 12.7 points per game while senior Lewis Sullivan paces UAB grabbing 6.2 rebounds per game.

Series History
Friday's contest marks the 10th matchup between the Blazers and Trojans. The Trojans are winless against UAB in the series (0-9) The last contest was Dec. 5, 2017 where the Trojans dropped a 90-78 decision inside in Troy despite shooting 50 percent (24-of-48) from the field.

In the game, then-senior Wesley Person scored a game-high 27 points on a perfect 12-of-12 from the charity stripe. Then-junior Alex Hicks added a double double in 17 points and 10 rebounds.
