KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Troy men's golf team wrapped its fall season finishing in the top half of the 21-team field at the East Bay Deli Classic at the Turtle Point Golf Course on Tuesday. The Trojans took home 10thplace and Dean Martin paced Troy individually in a tie for 23rd.
"We played a lot of good golf until today's round," head coach Bart Barnes said. "We got off to a couple of bad starts and just couldn't get it going. We made some birdies all week but just made too many big numbers, especially today. The guys are talented, and you see a lot of bright spots. We put ourselves in a position for a top finish or a win and just didn't execute."
The Trojans entered the final round in fourth place but shot 22-over par on the day to slip six spots. Jake Tiffin led the charge in Tuesday's final round with a 3-over 75 thanks to four birdies and nothing worse than a bogey on his card; he finished in a tie for 78thoverall.
Martin carded a couple of birdies on Tuesday and shot 5-over for the day to finish the week at 5-over, while Connor Futrell tied for 25that 6-over after shooting a 7-over 79 in the final round. Brent Hamm tied for 61stplace at 12-over for the week and Will McFadden tied for 64thplace at 13-over.
"We've had some decent finishes and played fairly well throughout the fall," Barnes said. "Where we have struggled is to get four quality scores on the same day. A big bright spot as we look to the spring is that we've had six different guys shoot a round under par so far this year and last year we had just two or three."
Troy now breaks for the winter before returning for the Seminole Intercollegiate on Feb. 23-24 hosted by Florida State.
