Troy Drops Season Opener at Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Florida State finished the first quarter on an 18-2 run and never looked back as the Seminoles downed Troy, 103-67, at the Tucker Center on Tuesday.
Amber Rivers hit a free throw to cut the FSU lead to one, 9-8, but the Seminoles reeled off 18 straight points before a pair of charity shots from Kayla Robinson capped the quarter. The Trojans were held without a field goal for the final 5:59 of the opening frame.
Troy turned the ball over 23 times leading to 26 Florida State points. The Seminoles also capitalized on offensive rebounds scoring 23 second chance points.
Rivers led Troy with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Sky'Lynn Holmes paced the squad with 10 rebounds.
Florida State junior guard Nicki Ekhomu was lights out all day knocking down 12 of 14 free throws while shooting 8-of-12 from the field and 3-of-5 from 3-point range to finish with a game-high 31 points. Kiah Gillespie had 22 points, while Valencia Myers added 17.

Troy hosts Samford on Monday in Trojan Arena at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs defeated the Trojans in both meeting between the teams last season.
