TROY, Alabama – Troy women's basketball head coach Chanda Rigby announced the signing of a pair of junior college student-athletes on Wednesday.
Tyasia Moore of Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas and Alexus Dye of Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, Fla., will join the Trojans next season.
Moore, a 6-foot native of Washington D.C., averaged 8.7 points in 35 games last season for a Trinity Valley squad that fell in the NJCAA national championship game. As prep star at Forestville Military Academy in Maryland, Moore averaged 16.8 points, 13.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 5.0 steals, was named conference MVP and was a member of the program's 2015 and 2016 state championship teams.
"Moore is a special player," Rigby said. "We don't have anyone like her on the roster. Her ability to score in multiple ways makes her a special athlete."
Dye, a native of Birmingham, Ala., played high school ball with Troy's Kate Rodgers at Wenonah High School before opting to Gulf Coast State. The 6-foot-1 forward posted 7.0 points and 4.6 rebounds for Gulf Coast last season. At Wenonah, Dye was named state tournament MVP in 2016 after she scored 55 points and grabbed 37 rebounds in three games; she repeated as most valuable player in 2017.
"Dye is a post player built for our system of running and rebounds," Rigby said. "She is a natural at both and very good at both."
Dye and Moore come from two of the top junior college programs in the nation. Either Trinity Valley or Gulf Coast have played in the NJCAA national championship game in eight of the last nine seasons. The two programs squared off in back-to-back years in 2016 and 2017.
"Both come from two of the top junior college programs in the nation," Rigby said. "Coach 'Roonie' Scoval and coach Gerald Ewing do a great job. Both of these players bring a championship mentality."
