Trio of Trojans Advance in Mercer Gridiron Classic

MACON, Georgia –Three Trojans advanced to the finals of their respective single flights, while one double team earned a spot in the finals as well in the Mercer Gridiron Classic on Saturday.

Maria Casas Blas will make a pair of appearances in the finals when action continues on Sunday. The sophomore defeated Mercer's Maeva Roquebert in the semifinal and advanced to face teammate Celia Montero Estevan, who knocked off East Tennessee's Ester Guemes. The match is set for 10 a.m. Sunday.

The doubles tandem of Casas Blas and Estevan beat Jacksonville' Malin Buechner and Shauna Casey, 6-0, and will take on Alabama State's Worthy Goldman and Maria Popova on Sunday.

Freshman Chunxi Guo will take on Mercer's Celine Schepers in the Flight B finals after defeating Alara Hollyfield, also of Mercer in the semis.

Matea Mihaljevic and Alabama State's Chloe Kabamba combined to win the Flight B Consolation title.
