Men's Tennis Competes at Mercer Gridiron Classic

MACON, Ga. – The Troy men's tennis team competed in the first day of the Mercer Gridiron Classic, where six Trojans saw action in singles and doubles play.
Senior Jiaqi Duan was close in a tiebreaker, but lost 7-5, 7-6(3), sophomore Jorge Poyatos fell short in both of his singles matches with the same score, 6-2, 6-2. Luis Foix lost his match, despite winning in the first set, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Trey Whittaker was close against Piush Salekar from Mercer, 6-3, 6-4.
The duo of freshmen Luis Foix and Trey Whittaker won their first doubles against Guillermo Agost and Mark Chigaazira from JSU, 7-6(5). Ignacio Rodriguez and Shaaz Peerani won their doubles match in tiebreaker against Alvaro Arias and Hikaru Nagoshi from Florida State, 7-6.
The Trojans will continue to compete on Saturday in singles and doubles play beginning at 7:30 a.m. (CT)
