Jiaqi Duan leads Troy on the Second Day of Mercer Gridiron Classic

MACON, Ga. – On the second day of Mercer Gridiron Classic, Troy secured wins in singles and doubles play led by senior Jiaqi Duan who won a pair of singles matches in  the singles consolation bracket.
Duan defeated two opponents to advance into semifinals of consolation singles draw. He picked up a win against Drew Lahey from Kennesaw State, 6-3, 7-6 (9), and against Guillermo Agost from Jacksonville State University, 6-2, 6-4. In the semifinals, Duan faced Martijn Kerssens (Georgia Southern University) and lost in a three-set thriller 2-6, 7-6 (3), 1-0 (8). Sophomore Jorge Poyatos won his singles match against Fernando Guardia from Mercer University, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8).
The freshman duo of Luis Foix and Trey Whittaker saw action in singles consolation brackets where Foix defeated Sebastian Osorio from Kennesaw State in a three-set match, 7-6, 6-7 (3), 1-0 (3). Following that match, Foix fell to Federico Nani (North Florida), 6-1, 6-0. Trey Whittaker was very close against Oscar Sohl from Florida State, but fell in three sets , 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (3). Shaaz Peerani and Ignacio Rodriguez dropped their matches in three and two sets accordingly.
In doubles play, Foix and Whittaker fell short against a duo from Mercer, 6-3. Ignacio Rodriguez and Shaaz Peerani won their doubles match against Lucas De Torres Curth / Gaston Muhammad from Kennesaw State, 6-3. Following that match, the duo lost to Daiki Tanabe and Gonzalo Achondo from Coastal Carolina, 6-2.
