STATESBORO, Georgia – The Troy soccer team earned an important road victory knocking off Georgia Southern, 2-1, on Friday.
Making her first career start, freshman Britt Ellmore made the most of it early. In the 14thminute, Kendra Cashion collected a loose ball and pushed it to the top of the box where she dumped it off to Lauren Aldrich. The senior then skirted a pass to Ellmore who slid a shot into the bottom right corner for her first career goal.
Cashion got on the scoresheet in the 37th when the Georgia Southern goalkeeper whiffed on a back pass allowing the speedy Cashion to run onto the ball and tap it in for the goal. The win snapped a four-game skid for Troy (3-10-1, 2-3 SBC).
Georgia Southern (4-8-0, 2-3) answered 15 minutes into the second half on a wonderful free kick goal off the right foot of Brogan Boudreaux. That would be all the offense the Eagles could muster though the teams were level with 14 shots each.
Haleigh Mercer was lights out in goal posting three critical saves earning her first win of the season.
