TROY, Alabama- Despite the frigid cold temperatures and harsh wind, the Trojans had a solid first day of play of the Troy Invitational at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Highlighting the day was freshman Pei Ju Hsieh, who made her Trojan debut. Hsieh was the only Troy player to win both her singles and doubles matches on the day.
The tournament started with doubles play as Sane Ohta and Nancy Karaky fell 6-3 to a pair from LA Tech, but Efriliya Herlina and Hsieh got the Trojans back on the right track with a 6-3 win over a different duo from LA Tech.
On the singles courts, four Trojans came out on top. Seniors Ohta and Karaky and freshmen Maria Casas Blas and Hsieh all earned hard fought victories. After falling in the first set, Casas Blas rallied back to win the second set and the tiebreaker to defeat Amiru Shimoguchi of Central Arkansas.

The Trojans will continue play in the Troy invitational on Sunday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex with a 1 p.m. start time.
