Women’s Tennis Opens Fall Season at Georgia Southern

TROY, Alabama- The Troy women's tennis teams is set to make its 2017 fall debut at the Georgia Southern Invitational Sept. 29- Oct. 1 in Statesboro, Ga. The tournament will feature Troy, Savannah State, Middle Georgia State, Georgia State, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and host team Georgia Southern. All matches will be played at the Wallis Tennis Center.
"We are looking forward to finally starting the new season and fall competition," head coach Rawia Elsisi said. "Georgia Southern is a great tournament to start with, especially for our new freshmen. Only four players will be competing, including seniors Jiayuan Xue and Efriliya Herlina. It will be a great opportunity for everyone."
Representing the Trojans will be seniors Jiayuan Xue and Efriliya Herlina and freshmen Matea Mihaljevic and Maria Casas Blas.
In singles play, Herlina is set to face Savannah State's Shakendra Alston Friday at 12:30 in the White Singles draw, while Mihaljevic earned a first round bye and will play her first match as a Trojan on Saturday at 10 a.m.
In the Blue Singles draw, Xue will face UTC's Delaney Edwards Friday at 12:30 and Casas Blas will make her Troy debut against another UTC opponent, Caroline Hall, at 12:30.
On the doubles courts, freshmen duo Casas Blas and Mihaljevic will face a UTC pair, Hall and Bogdana Zaporozhets. Xue and Herlina will play Savannah State's Alston and Sophia Shut'ko in the first round. Both doubles matches will begin Friday at 10 a.m.
