9/17/2017 4:49:00 PM | Soccer
TROY, Alabama – The Troy soccer team created numerous chances in the second half but could not overcome a slow start in a 4-1 loss at Arkansas State on Sunday.
Â
The Trojans (3-6-2, 1-1 Sun Belt) fell behind 2-0 in the first half and produced just three shots, but came just inches from leveling the game late. Kate Lorenz scored off a cross from Julia Winter in the 71st minute to pump life back into the team. Just over 10 minutes later, Winter looked to have tied the game, but her goal was waved off by an offside call. The Red Wolves (5-3, 1-1) tacked on a pair of goals in the final five minutes as the Trojans pushed players forward looking for the equalizer.
Â
Lauren Aldrich nearly put the Trojans on the board in the 59th minute with a diving header, but Arkansas State keeper Kelsey Ponder made a nice reaction save to keep the shot out.
Â
The Red Wolves opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Bailey Reed launched a pass from near her own penalty area and Maggie Ertl ran outran a Trojan defender before slipping a shot passed the keeper for the score. Hailey Furio put ASU up 2-0 with a far post finish 10 yards from goal in the 31st.
