Troy Notches Two Top-Three Finishes In Stellar Opener

OXFORD, Alabama – Troy sprinted out to an impressive start to the cross country season as both teams placed in the top three at the JSU Struts Invitational on Friday.
The men's team was just 1:16 in total time behind Georgia Tech and two full minutes ahead of Alabama to take second place on the day. Sawyer Sprung was the first finisher in seventh place for the Trojans with an overall time of 15:31.2 in the 5k event with an average mile time of 4:59.8.
Following him was Bradley Dixon, who came in just behind at 5:00.1 to take eighth place as Troy's other top-10 finisher. Troy had two more top-15 finishers with junior Brennan Garriques coming in 13th at 15:35.5 and Brackin Stewart notching a time of 15:35.7 for 14th.
It was an equally impressive day for the women's squad as they came in third place with an overall time of 1:18.04 behind Georgia Tech and Alabama. Freshman Christie Caruana got off to a stellar start to her career by taking third place with a time of 14:40.0 and an average mile time of 5:54.1.
Mirroring the men's team, the women's team also had two more back-to-back top-10 finishes as Mackenzie Walsh took eighth at 15:06.7 and Kara Coulter took ninth a fraction behind at 15:06.8. Both runners are also freshman.
