Troy Soccer Set for Jaguar Classic

TROY, Alabama – Coming off a stretch of five games over seven days, the Troy soccer team makes the trip to Mobile after four days of much needed rest to compete in the Jaguar Classic hosted by South Alabama.

The all-Alabama event features the Trojans (2-3) taking on Jacksonville State on Friday at 4 p.m. and Alabama on Sunday at 12 p.m. Host South Alabama faces Alabama at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Jacksonville State at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Troy is coming off a 2-1 week with road wins over Alabama State and Jackson State by a combined 11-0 score line. Sophomore Julia Winter was named Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals and recording an assist. Senior Haley Roberson had a solid week as well posting five assists in the team's three games.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
JACKSONVILLE STATE (2-1-1)
Jacksonville State has posted wins over Alabama State and Middle Tennessee before recording a scoreless draw versus Georgia State in its last outing on the pitch. JSU put together a complete performance in a dominating 4-1 win over the Blue Raiders and had many chances to post a third win of the season against the Panthers. Sophomore Danielle Monroe nearly turned in a hat trick with two of the four goals against MTSU, while senior Kayla Thompson had a solid performance with two assists on Monroe's two scores. Thompson tallied a goal in the second half, while Emma Meadows tacked on the final goal.

ALABAMA (3-1)
Alabama (3-1) split a pair of games last weekend. After dropping a match to South Florida, 2-1, in overtime on Thursday, the Tide bounced back to knock off then-No. 6/4 Florida State, 1-0, on Sunday for its first shutout of the season. Stand-out freshmen Casey Wertz and Taylor Morgan notched Alabama's two goals and the Tide outshot its opponents 34-22.

NOTEWORTHY
• Through two weeks of regular season play, the Trojans lead the Sun Belt Conference with 12 goals, 72 shots, 10 assists and 28 corners.

• Winter stands second in the SBC with three goals scored, Roberson paces the league with five assists.

• Troy has won five of the last six matchups against Jacksonville State, including a 1-0 decision over the Gamecocks last season.
