TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's golf team earned its third straight berth into the NCAA Regionals as the Trojans were tabbed as an at-large selection into the NCAA College Grove Regional at The Grove.
"I'm very proud of these guys for going to their third straight Regional," head coach Matt Terry said. "It is very hard to earn an at-large selection, and I'm extremely excited to go back to The Grove. It is a course that our team is familiar with and we're honored to part of a great field of teams."
Troy finished the season with a No. 63 Golfstat national ranking and will be the No. 11 seed in the College Grove Regional. The top five teams and the top individual not on a qualifying team will move on to the NCAA Championship at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. Regional play opens May 15 and continues with 18 holes each day through May 17.
The Trojans won the stroke play portion of the Sun Belt Conference Championship before falling to eventual champion Georgia State in the semifinals of match play. Troy defeated Georgia State to win the 2016 Sun Belt Championship.
The Grove is a familiar setting for the Trojans as they have played in the Intercollegiate at The Grove in each of the last three seasons, which included a second-place finish.
Senior Jared Bettcher will be making his fourth appearance in an NCAA Regional after qualifying as an individual his freshman season, while seniors Luke Moser and Clayton Vannoy will be playing in their third Regional.
"It's really awesome to see our name pop up on the screen," Bettcher said. "We are comfortable going to The Grove and we're excited that we don't have to travel too far. I knew starting my freshman year that we had a ton of potential and we just keep getting better each year."
SEC Champion Vanderbilt is the top seed in the College Grove Regional followed by Texas Tech, Clemson, Georgia, Missouri, Lipscomb, Kennesaw State, Central Florida, Middle Tennessee, TCU, East Tennessee State and Harvard. Troy has victories over Georgia, Missouri, Kennesaw State, Middle Tennessee and East Tennessee State this season.
