TROY, Alabama – Troy baseball will wrap up its regular season with a three-game Sun Belt series at in-state rival No. 25 South Alabama. First pitches on Thursday and Friday are set for 6:30 p.m. while Saturday's finale will start at 1 p.m.
The Trojans (30-22, 15-12) enter the series after a modest five-game winning streak was snapped in a mid-week matchup at No. 8 Mississippi State Tuesday night – Troy has won six of their last eight games.
Troy jumped out to an 8-3 lead before falling 10-8 in Starkville – with the bulk of the runs driven in by Trevor Davis. Davis finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the third and two more in the fourth, both as a part of an eight-run explosion by the Trojans in the two innings.
Jackson Cofer also drove in two runs against the Bulldogs after a week that included two walk-off hits for the junior designated hitter – a walk-off single to beat Alabama State last Tuesday and a two-run walk-off home run to defeat ULM in league play Saturday.
Troy head coach Mark Smartt will send Andrew Crane (6-1, 0.98) to the mound for the start in Thursday's opener; while junior righty Daren Osby (5-4, 4.66) will answer the bell in game two. Crane currently holds the all-time Sun Belt record and team record with 36.2 consecutive scoreless innings of work.
The 25th-ranked Jaguars (34-18, 20-7) have won five straight and nine of their last 10 games – including a win over No. 10 LSU and a sweep of Appalachian State. Travis Swaggerty leads the club batting at a .368 clip this season.
