Troy Baseball Set for Showdown with No. 5 Auburn

TROY, Alabama – Troy hits the road for an in-state matchup with No. 5 Auburn Tuesday night at Plainsman Park – first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
The Trojans (22-17, 9-9 Sun Belt) are coming off a sweep of Texas State at Riddle-Pace Field this past weekend.
Steven Whitaker and Jackson Cofer led Troy at the plate in the three-game set, posting a combined 7-for-15 with four runs scored and six walks – Whitaker added two triples to contribute to a 1.667 OPS over the weekend.
Andrew Crane and Austin Crook were outstanding on the mound in the series, allowing no runs on a total of five hits and striking out a collective 13 batters.
Sophomore second baseman Brandon Lockridge has paced the Trojans' bats over the course of the season. Lockridge leads the team in batting average (.339), has hit safely in 23 of the last 24 games and has reached base safely in 38 of Troy's 39 games this season.
Freshman lefty Max Newton (1-0, 3.38) will answer the bell for the Trojans for the second time in his career. Newton worked five innings and allowed four runs – two earned – in his first ever start last Wednesday at Jacksonville State.
No. 5 Auburn (30-12, 12-6 SEC) enters the mid-week contest following a SEC series victory over No. 15 Arkansas.
Jonah Todd leads the Tigers at the dish, batting .381 and ranking 37th in the country in hits with 59 on the season. Christian Camacho (2-1, 4.97) will make his seventh mid-week start for Auburn, with his lone loss coming to South Alabama.
