TROY, Alabama- After a dominating weekend in Mobile, Ala., and New Orleans, La., last week, the Troy women's tennis team will return to Mobile to face Middle Tennessee State and South Alabama for the last two matches of the regular season before traveling to the conference tournament. Both matches are set to begin at 11 a.m.
The Trojans (7-12, 2-1 SBC) defeated Georgia Southern 4-1 and No. 48 Tulane 4-3 last week as reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week Sanae Ohta clinched both matches for Troy. Ohta looks to improve on her three-match win streak. Ohta and doubles partner Nancy Karaky are 10-4 this year and have won four straight matches on court one.
Senior Alicia Rodriguez has also had an excellent season as she is 11-2 on the year. She has earned key wins against No. 48 Tulane, Coastal Carolina, Xavier, and New Orleans. She has a team and career high nine-match win streak.
Middle Tennessee State is 9-13 on the season and is coming off of a 4-3 loss to Southern Miss. Conference rival South Alabama is 17-4 this season and is coming off a 4-1 win over Coastal Carolina.
QUOTABLE
"We are expecting a good match against South Alabama," head coach Rawia Elsisi said. "Last year we played them at home and lost 4-3 in a close match. We know it is going to be a battle to beat them. I just tell the girls to play and that they are here to improve. When you go out there and play with no fear, anything can happen."
UP NEXT
The Trojans will return to New Orleans to compete in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament April 20-23. Match times and seeding will be announced at a later date.
