TROY, Alabama – Troy sophomore, Hakim Montgomery, is set to compete at the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., Sunday.
Â
He will hit the track at 2:30 p.m. in the semifinal round of the 60-meter dash – with the finals following at 5:30 Sunday evening.
Â
Earlier this season, he set the team record with a 6.59-second time in the 60-meter dash at the Bob Pollack Invite in Clemson, S.C. At the time, it stood as the fourth fastest time in the world and currently sits in a tie for the third best time in the country.
Â
He finished the indoor season undefeated in the 60-meter sprint – running the fastest time in all six events that he competed in.
Â
A native of Temple, Ga., Montgomery is no stranger to the spotlight, as he was chosen to compete at the Junior World Championships in Poland last summer – where he won a gold medal in the 4x100-meter relay and qualified for the semi-finals in the 100-meter dash.
Â
"He is competing against many of the best athletes in the world at 60m," Troy head coach Marc Davis said. "It's a big step in his career. I know he is very excited about the opportunity."
